Apple Challenge
A fun and unusual Chinese wedding tradition involves an apple, a long stick, and a ribbon. This reception game lets the wedding guests watch as the bride and groom attempt to take a bite out of the apple. The catch? The best man or maid of honor is in charge of bobbing the fruit out of the way. The entertainment comes from cheering while watching the couple accidentally kiss with each missed attempt to grab the apple. Honestly, how fun would this be to include in your reception? It would be so fun to watch!
Something…Green?
Here’s a little known fact: in Italy, the color green is important for weddings. In fact, many Italian brides replace “something blue” with “something green.” It is said that the color green is a lucky hue for the newlywed couple. Adding a splash of green to your wedding color scheme could be a really great way to show off your Italian roots. A green sash, greenery bouquet, or even emerald jewelry are all great ways to incorporate the color into your bridal outfit! Father’s Shoe
An interesting South African wedding tradition sees the bride’s father tie a shoe to the couple’s wedding car. This is intended to symbolize the groom’s new role as protector of the bride. It’s a sweet gesture, albeit an interesting one! Perhaps you can ditch one of the tin cans on your getaway vehicle with your father’s shoe as a nod to this South African wedding custom.
The Three Rings
Traditionally, Swedish brides are said to get three bands on her ring. What for? Well, the first is for her engagement, the second for the wedding, and the third for when she becomes a mother. Isn’t this a romantic idea? This tradition commemorating these important moments create such a beautiful ring.
Silly Sock Dance
A unique Canadian wedding tradition is called “The Silly Sock Dance.” And, no, we aren’t making this up. In Quebec, the older, unmarried siblings of the bride and groom will dance during the reception and show off their wild, colorful socks. Guests cheer and toss money to the participants, who then give the money to the bride and groom after the dance is complete.
